Item Details
Antique Chinese pewter-mounted and carved coconut shell teapot, typically dating from the late 19th century to the early 20th century. Late Qing Dynasty to the Republic period. The spherical body is meticulously crafted from a dried, hollowed-out coconut shell, which has been carved in deep relief featuring traditional Chinese cloud scrolls, stylized key-fret patterns, and auspicious symbols such as the Shou (long life) character.
The collar, foot rim, single side handle, and angled spout are made of brass. It features structural loops near the collar meant to hold a swinging overhead bail handle, which is currently missing on this specific piece.
